  1. Is this yet another BritPOP! copy? Why are people not original anymore or they could at least tweak the design. I imagine the designer will do the honourable thing and at least offer Brad a royalty. Graham Elliott

  2. Hi Graham,
Brad have sparked the imagination of many fans. you, Stollery and Brad have contributed to this new trend with the magnificent "triplete" at the world Championships of West Kirby.
I am sure that those who designed this boat will be forgiven the first time that we have the pleasure of having one of you in Italy for a race.

  5. Mr Anonymous......Tell me in 5 years why nobody anywhere in the world copy or try to copy the Lintel?? People knew it was fast in strong wind but no copies ???
Only similarity between Lintel AND BritPOP is a chine, very little else, as can be seen by quite different perfomance. Please feel free to lay a BritPOP against Lintel to compare to see just how different. 2 completely different hull forms with different chine placement, chine shape, chine length, deck shape, sheer height, internal layout etc.
Now that my design has shown to be fast in all winds, many more appear. This always happens, think TS2. There were many bad TS2 copies also which never came close to the originals performance. What is very annoying is someone trying to copy every single aspect of our boat, chine, sheeline, position of chine to waterline, bow shape with same deck style etc etc. A very big difference. Trying to pass off such a copy as your own work is poor. Look at ITA forum, we have person who even does 3d render in same colour and posts youtube of our boat beneath in ITA trying to show how much the same. This is not funny.

Lastly, Craig Smith offered and has paid a royalty for his latest design. In his own words he says he would never have thought to design such a boat without my boats success. At least he shows ethics and honesty. You tell me if it was Lintel that inspired him or BritPOP?

If you want to say who first uses edges in IOM, maybe Bantock Red Wine in 90s. Chine is only 1 part of the design, but I guess you know this.....

  6. Hi Brad,

I understand your words, and I agree with your thoughts. I beg you will accept my apology. mainboom not appear above plus a drawing or a picture that even remotely can remember Britpop.
    I am deeply dismayed.

  10. Massimo,

Never a reason for you to apologise here. This is your blog and you report everything IOM. Let me be clear. Many new boats now have long chines, but yet are different in design to BritPOP. Designs like Pierre's "Moster" are very nice to look at, yet very different in shape and appearance. Pierre had a very good close look at my BritPOP in Italy. He could have gone off to modify Moster to look the same, he did not as he has his own very smart ideas, like many good designers.

    An example:
Massimo has a brand new Ferrari (lovely car). I decide to build a sportscar for myself. I take as many pictures and measurements as I can from Massimo's car and make as close a copy as I can because I love this car. To the inexperienced eye I have a new Ferrari. I now decide to sell these cars and say they are as good as a Ferrari with many orders and tell everyone it is my own design car.
How does Ferrari factory react to this? Are they happy?
They do not get upset with other forms or types of sportscar but I guess they would not be happy with my version and probably take legal action as I have made money from their copying their design.
Of course there are people who think there is nothing wrong with this, but I am not one.

  12. To the layman two boats with chine are apparently equal, unless there is another stark difference like having a breadth too small or too large or the deck line is very unconventional.
For the layman BritPop! is similar to Lintel or others before.
By my knowledge, an immersed chine causes vortex that increase the resistance, which may eventually be offset by a decrease in resistance by a lack of the reverse side which tends to create a trim by the bow. The chine allows us to have in a single hull 2. However I wonder if this chine so sharp can not be replaced by something softer, reducing the harm that it introduces.
Personally I do not know the Britpop! or Lintel hull form and I've seen Pikanto quickly. By videos of the last World Cup I thought the Britpop! sail better than Pikanto but do not believe that is only because the chine is in one way or another.
Other technical attributes make Britpop! very good. The appearance deceives many times.
But with our bonobo origem, the copy is just a human characteristic.

    Ciao
